The Borana region in southern Ethiopia has been suffering from severe drought for more than a year. The drought has reached catastrophic levels and the area is in dire need of relief.
The Borana people are pastoralists and land cultivators. Timely and adequate rainfall patterns determine their welfare. Rainfall has been extremely low or absent for consecutive rainy seasons since 2021. Reports from the area show acute food and water deficiencies for humans as well as their livestock. Deep water well levels are quickly depleting. Livestock is dying and people are suffering.
Quick Statistics:
More than 2.2 million Livestock Deaths in the Region
More than 65,000 households have lost all livestock
More then 22,000 children facing acute malnutrition
More than 23,000 pregnant and lactating women facing acute malnutrition
